VINS is an application designed to reduce the time and cost associated with importing vehicles into the US. VINS both provides the software to enter vehicle information and produce necessary output forms and reports and the electronic network to exchange transactions between organizations involved in moving vehicles from Canada and Europe to the US. Trading partners include Registered Importers Customs Brokers, Bond Underwriters, Vehicle Exporters, Recall and EPA Warranty Policy Providers and the DOT.
VINS is also EDI enabled to send all data to Customs Brokers, EPA Warranty Policy Providers, and Bond Underwriters.
Program Highlights
I. Vehicle Input
- Single input screen to capture all vehicle information.
- Automatic decoding of VIN number to complete the Vehicle Year, Make, Model, Country of Origin, HS Tariff, Manufacturer, VSA Number, Vehicle Type.
- Automatic conversion between miles and kilometers.
- Automatic completion of the Statement of Conformity based on Vehicle Type.
- Automatic assignment of DOT Bond Numbers and Warranty Policies (when using participating providers).
- Ability to set default values to minimize amount of data entry.
- Ability to create custom Input forms to capture additional information.
II. Output Forms
- Ability to set default forms to print (reduces need to select forms each time).
- Contains all the forms required to import a vehicle from Canada or Europe. Forms include:
- Cover Letter (for the individual compliance package)
- DOT Conformity Bond
- DOT Payment Letter (used in conjunction with the data file sent to DOT)

Many Importers generate forms that are vehicle related but not required to import a vehicle. These include Bills of Sale, fax cover sheets, various DMV titling forms, etc. We work with individual Importers to create the forms they need and integrate them into VINS.
III. Report Generation
VINS allows an unlimited number of “spreadsheet style” reports to be set up, permitting the user the ability to view countless combinations of vehicle data. Currently there are in excess of 100 data fields that can be used when generating a report. Data retrieved in the reports can be “Copy / Pasted” into other Windows applications, such as Microsoft Excel.
IV. Program Customization
In keeping with our goal of meeting the needs of specific users, VINS has been customized for several users. Examples of customizations include:
- Addition of unique data fields to meet data collection requirements;
- Addition of unique output forms;
- Development of custom input screens;
- Linking VINS data directly with other applications;
- Creation of customer invoices.
